High demand for appointments and services

Dear Patients

Whilst initial signs are looking positive and we all move to what we hope will be more normality. We would like to take a moment to remind all our patients that this shift is also impacting on our services too.

Over several weeks the demand for appointments and services has increased significantly. We are currently working through back logs of postponed care and sustaining primary care for the back log of patients awaiting specialist services. In addition to our normal clinics, our team are continuing to provide the national Covid vaccination programme, which in itself is a substantial task.

Whilst we are pleased that patients are now making contact on issues that they may have put off for some time during the pandemic, we are doing all we can to meet the increased demand but it is difficult to condense 12 months of multiple issues in this short succession of time.

We are still working under national guidance and continue to telephone triage medical concerns prior to face to face bookings due to the vulnerabilities of some patients and visitors within the practice. We understand some frustrations within this system and we will make necessary changes once we have received National guidance again.

Please can we ask again that patients refrain from contacting the practice regarding vaccine queries, we contact all our patients when we are able to invite them for their 1st/2nd doses. And to date there is no legislation regarding individuals requiring proof of vaccine or vaccination passports which we do not provide.

For minor illnesses, please try self-care initially and speak with your pharmacy regarding over the counter treatments. We will of course try to assist when necessary but many acute issues do not require GP intervention and are self-limiting.

Please remember to order your repeat prescriptions in advance ( up to 1 week before they are due). Demands for forgotten requests is high and we cannot take requests over the telephone. Please try to remember and appreciate that processing prescriptions is time consuming and cannot always be done on the same day.

Lastly whilst we understand patients frustrations at times, our reception team are not responsible for the restrictions imposed on us, nor are they able to provide an instant resolution when we have reached full capacity. Our teams are working above and beyond right now as they have been for 12 months. We are very disappointed with the abusive comments our team have been subjected in recent weeks and this will be addressed as we prepare to contact a number of patients following our zero tolerance procedures. Please treat our team respectfully.

Thank you
